The Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme is making rapid progress, with more than 10 lakh households already availing its benefits. Launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 13, 2024, the initiative aims to install solar panels on 1 crore rooftops by 2027, providing free electricity and promoting sustainable energy solutions.

Key Features of PM Surya Ghar Yojana

  • 300 units of free electricity per month for eligible households.
  • Subsidy of up to ₹78,000 per solar panel installation.
  • ₹75,000 crore government investment to promote solar energy adoption.
  • ₹4,770 crore in subsidies already provided to 6.13 lakh beneficiaries.

Solar Power Adoption Across Indian States

The scheme is witnessing high adoption rates across multiple states. Regions like Chandigarh, Daman, and Diu have already achieved 100% rooftop solar coverage on government buildings. This shift is helping reduce dependence on traditional power sources and accelerating India’s clean energy transition.

How Does the PM Surya Ghar Scheme Work?

Households opting for solar panel installation under this scheme will benefit from:

🔹 Direct subsidy transfer to bank accounts via DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer).
🔹 Lower electricity bills by using solar power for daily consumption.
🔹 Extra income opportunities by selling surplus power to the grid.

Government Subsidy for Solar Installations

The government offers financial assistance based on solar panel capacity:

📌 ₹30,000 per kW subsidy for installations up to 2 kW.
📌 ₹48,000 per kW subsidy for installations up to 3 kW.
📌 Total subsidy of ₹78,000 for a 3 kW system.

How to Apply for PM Surya Ghar Yojana?

Follow these simple steps to apply for the scheme:

1️⃣ Visit the official government portal for solar panel registration.
2️⃣ Enter details like consumer number, address, and required solar capacity.
3️⃣ Select an empaneled vendor from the government-approved list.
4️⃣ Submit your application and wait for verification by DISCOM authorities.
5️⃣ Install solar panels upon approval and complete the net metering process.
6️⃣ Receive subsidy directly in your bank account.

A Milestone in India Renewable Energy Future

The PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme is not only reducing electricity costs but also strengthening India’s renewable energy sector. With millions of applications and thousands of homes already powered by solar energy, this initiative is a game-changer for affordable and sustainable electricity across the country.
