Vijay’s ‘Jana Nayagan’ Is Partly Inspired by Bhagavanth Kesari, Director H Vinoth Confirms
Chennai: Speculation surrounding Tamil superstar Vijay’s upcoming film Jana Nayagan has finally been addressed by director H Vinoth, who confirmed that the movie draws inspiration from the Telugu blockbuster Bhagavanth Kesari. However, he clarified that the film is not a scene-by-scene remake and has been significantly reworked to suit Vijay’s screen presence.
H Vinoth Says Only Part of the Original Film Remains
Speaking in recent interviews, H Vinoth revealed that Jana Nayagan is only partially based on Anil Ravipudi’s Bhagavanth Kesari, starring Nandamuri Balakrishna.
According to the director, around 50% of the overall story has been adapted. He explained that while the first half shares more similarities with the Telugu film, the second half has been largely rewritten.
“We modified the screenplay to suit Vijay’s personality and style. The first half has more resemblance, while the latter portion is mostly different,” Vinoth said.
Vijay Encouraged the Adaptation
Vinoth also shared that he initially had no plans to remake another film after directing Nerkonda Paarvai, the Tamil adaptation of Pink, starring Ajith Kumar.
He said it was Vijay who encouraged him to take inspiration from Bhagavanth Kesari rather than treating it as a conventional remake.
The director praised Vijay’s commitment to stories highlighting women’s empowerment, adding that he had witnessed a similar approach while working with Ajith Kumar on Nerkonda Paarvai.
Vinoth said he did not want to miss the opportunity to direct what is expected to be Vijay’s final film before stepping away from full-time acting.
Remake Rumours Had Been Circulating Since 2025
Reports linking Jana Nayagan to Bhagavanth Kesari first surfaced in early 2025 after actor VTV Ganesh claimed at a public event that Vijay had watched the Telugu film multiple times and was interested in bringing it to Tamil audiences.
The claim generated widespread discussion among fans.
However, director Anil Ravipudi later clarified that he had never confirmed such reports. He urged audiences to wait for the film’s release before labeling it a remake, saying the makers had approached the project in their own way.
Star Cast and Release Date
Jana Nayagan features Vijay in the lead role alongside Pooja Hegde, Mamitha Baiju, and Bobby Deol in key roles.
The film will release in multiple languages, including:
- Tamil: Jana Nayagan
- Telugu: Jana Nayakudu
- Hindi: Jan Neta
All versions are scheduled to hit theatres on July 23.
The film has attracted significant attention as it marks Vijay’s first major release after assuming office as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu following his party’s electoral victory. Fans are eagerly waiting to see how the actor’s final cinematic outing before focusing on politics unfolds on the big screen.
