New Delhi, July 25, 2026: What started as a six-word post on social media has evolved into one of the most talked-about youth-led protest movements in recent Indian politics. At the centre of the movement is Abhijeet Dipke, the founder of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), who has emerged as the face of a nationwide campaign demanding accountability over alleged exam paper leaks.

The movement gained momentum after weeks of protests at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, eventually leading to the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

A Viral Social Media Post Sparked the Movement

The origins of the Cockroach Janta Party can be traced back to May 16, when Dipke posted a short message on X:

“What if all cockroaches come together?”

The post was widely shared online after comments made by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, in which unemployed youth were compared to “cockroaches” during a speech. Although the Chief Justice later clarified that his remarks had been misunderstood, the phrase had already become a symbol of youth frustration.

Soon afterward, supporters created the satirical Cockroach Janta Party, transforming an online joke into a large-scale public movement.

From Online Campaign to Nationwide Protest

The CJP quickly became a platform for students and young people expressing concerns over unemployment, competitive examination controversies, and demands for greater government accountability.

Over the past week, thousands of protesters gathered at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, calling for the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the alleged NEET examination paper leak.

Demonstrations were also reported in several other cities, including Mumbai, making the campaign one of the largest youth-led protests in recent years.

Who Is Abhijeet Dipke?

Abhijeet Dipke, 30, was living in Boston, United States, where he was pursuing a master’s degree in public relations before returning to India in June to join the protests.

Originally from Aurangabad, Maharashtra, Dipke comes from a Dalit family and has often spoken publicly about his modest upbringing.

His father, he has said, grew up in poverty, while his grandfather worked as a farmer. Dipke has frequently cited Dr. B.R. Ambedkar as a major influence on his political thinking.

When he arrived in Delhi, he was seen carrying a copy of Ambedkar’s autobiography, highlighting the movement’s focus on constitutional values and social justice.

Background in Political Communication

Before moving to the United States, Dipke worked with the social media team of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in 2020, where he developed expertise in digital political communication using satire, memes and online campaigns.

Although he is no longer associated with the party, several opposition parties, including AAP, later expressed support for the student-led movement.

Social Media Played a Key Role

The movement expanded rapidly after YouTuber Meghnad S and other supporters created a satirical website for the Cockroach Janta Party using AI tools.

Its Instagram page reportedly attracted millions of followers within days, turning the campaign into one of India’s fastest-growing online political movements.

The digital momentum soon translated into large public gatherings across the country.

Dipke Calls Resignation a Victory for Protesters

Following the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan on Saturday, Dipke addressed supporters at Jantar Mantar, describing it as proof that sustained public pressure could bring political change.

He told protesters that the resignation showed people should not be afraid to raise their voices and urged them to continue seeking accountability through peaceful and democratic means.

Protesters Continue to Raise Additional Demands

Despite calling the resignation a significant achievement, CJP leaders said they expect further action from the government.

Among their remaining demands are:

• Action against police personnel involved in the crackdown on protesters.
• Withdrawal of cases registered against demonstrators.
• Compensation for families who allegedly lost children following the NEET paper leak controversy.
• Measures to improve transparency and accountability in competitive examinations.
