PUBG Mobile Light Coming in 2026 With Lower Storage Requirements

PUBG Mobile Light is set to arrive in 2026 as a new version of the popular battle royale game designed for players who want the full PUBG Mobile experience without taking up too much storage space on their phones.

The announcement was made by PUBG Mobile producer Rick Li, who explained that the upcoming version is not simply a stripped-down edition of the original game. Instead, the focus is on reducing the game’s device requirements while keeping its main gameplay and content intact.

PUBG Mobile Light Expected to Take Less Storage

One of the biggest differences will be the game’s installation size. The Android version is expected to require around 1GB of storage, while the iOS version could take approximately 2GB.

Players will also have more control over the amount of content stored locally. According to the announcement, users will be able to select which game content they want to keep on their devices, potentially helping those with limited storage space.

Full PUBG Mobile Experience

Unlike the older PUBG Mobile Lite, which offered a smaller experience with fewer features, PUBG Mobile Light is being designed to retain the core PUBG Mobile gameplay.

The game will include Erangel and the familiar battle royale experience. Players will also be able to access their existing cosmetics, including outfits and other items, by signing in with their PUBG Mobile accounts.

This means users may not need to start their collection from scratch when switching to the lighter version.

Light Players Can Play With Standard PUBG Mobile Users

PUBG Mobile Light will remain connected to the broader PUBG Mobile ecosystem. Players using the Light version will reportedly be able to team up with friends playing the standard PUBG Mobile app.

The two versions are also expected to receive updates in sync, allowing Light users to access new content alongside players on the regular version.

This cross-version compatibility could make PUBG Mobile Light more appealing to users with entry-level or storage-constrained smartphones.

Pre-Registration Starts on August 25

PUBG Mobile Light is scheduled to launch sometime in 2026, although an exact release date has not been announced.

Pre-registration is expected to begin on August 25 through both Google Play and Apple’s App Store. More information about supported devices, regional availability and the final download size could be revealed closer to launch.

PUBG Mobile Light vs PUBG Mobile Lite

PUBG Mobile Light should not be confused with the older PUBG Mobile Lite. While PUBG Mobile Lite was created as a reduced version of the original game with fewer features, the new Light edition is focused primarily on reducing the storage footprint while preserving the core experience.

That approach could make the new version particularly useful for players using smartphones with limited internal storage.

BGMI Lite Could Also Arrive in India

The development comes as the mobile battle royale ecosystem continues to expand in India. BGMI Lite is also reportedly expected to launch in India later in 2026, with a similar focus on making the game accessible to users with lower-end devices.

Meanwhile, Krafton India recently introduced the BGMI Campus MVP programme, a 90-day initiative aimed at developing gaming communities at engineering colleges across the country.

The first group reportedly includes 150 student ambassadors from 17 IITs and 28 NITs. Participants are expected to organise tournaments, create gaming content, conduct meet-ups and build BGMI communities on their campuses.

PUBG Mobile Light: Key Details

  • Launch: Expected in 2026

  • iOS size: Around 2GB
  • Main map: Erangel
