Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to meet Indian athletes who participated in the recently concluded Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on Thursday, October 15, in New Delhi. The programme will celebrate the contingent’s achievements and acknowledge the contributions of athletes, coaches and support staff.

According to a press release from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the interaction will take place at approximately 4:30 PM at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium. The Prime Minister is also expected to address the gathering during the event.

India Finishes Fourth at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games

India finished fourth in the overall medal standings at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, winning a total of 85 medals. The country’s medal tally included 21 gold, 27 silver and 37 bronze medals.

The result marked India’s second consecutive finish among the top five countries at the Asian Games. However, the overall medal count remained below India’s record-breaking performance at the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games, where the country secured 106 medals.

India’s performance across different sporting disciplines highlighted the efforts of its athletes as they competed against leading teams from across Asia.

Athletes, Coaches and Sports Officials to Attend

The programme in New Delhi is expected to bring together members of the Indian contingent and key representatives from the country’s sporting community.

Athletes, coaches, support staff, Indian Olympic Association officials, representatives of National Sports Federations and officials from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports are expected to attend the event.

The interaction will provide an opportunity to recognise the team’s efforts and acknowledge the people who contributed to India’s campaign at the continental sporting event.

PM Modi’s Interaction to Recognise India’s Sporting Achievements

The meeting with the Asian Games contingent is an opportunity to celebrate India’s performance on the international sporting stage. With the country finishing fourth in the medal standings, the event will bring attention to the achievements of its athletes and their contribution to Indian sports.

The programme is scheduled for October 15 at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in New Delhi, with the Prime Minister expected to address the participants and other attendees.
