In a candid conversation with popular American podcaster Lex Fridman, Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared his thoughts on cricket, football, and India’s diplomatic stance with Pakistan.

India vs Pakistan: Cricket and Competition

While discussing sports, PM Modi mentioned that he is not a cricket expert, but recent match results prove which team is superior.

“I am not an expert, I do not know the technique of this game, only experts can tell you that. But just a few days ago, India and Pakistan played a match. The result reveals which team is the better team.”

This statement comes after India dominant victory over Pakistan in the Champions Trophy, where the team went on to lift the title after a thrilling final against New Zealand.

Sports as a Unifying Force

Beyond competition, PM Modi emphasized that sports have the power to unite people across borders.

“I think sports have the power to energize the entire world. The spirit of sports brings people together across different nations. That’s why I would never want to see sports being discredited. Sports play a major role in human evolution; they are not just games but a deeper connection between people.”

Who is the Greatest Footballer?

When asked about football, PM Modi acknowledged the legacies of Diego Maradona and Lionel Messi.

“Maradona was hailed as a hero in the 1980s, but today, Lionel Messi has a massive following in modern football.”

He also shared an interesting story about the love for football in India, particularly in a small town in Madhya Pradesh.

PM Modi recalled his visit to Bicharpur in Shahdol district, where he witnessed a deep-rooted passion for football.

“I saw around 80 to 100 young boys and even older players, all dressed in sports jerseys. When I asked where they were from, they said, ‘We are from Mini Brazil.’ They explained that football has been played in their village for four generations, producing nearly 80 national-level players.”

Modi on India-Pakistan Relations

Shifting focus to diplomacy, PM Modi addressed India’s strained relations with Pakistan, criticizing Pakistan’s hostility and betrayal despite India’s efforts for peace.

“Every noble attempt at fostering peace was met with hostility and betrayal. We sincerely hope that wisdom prevails upon them and they choose the path of peace.”

The interview highlighted PM Modi perspectives on sports, national pride, and India stance on global issues, making it a widely discussed conversation.
