JEE Main 2026 Session 1 Provisional Answer Key Released: Check Response Sheet, Score Estimation Tips & Objection Process

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has dropped the JEE Main 2026 Session 1 provisional answer key today, February 4, 2026, alongside individual recorded response sheets and question papers (where applicable). This comes as a big relief for the 13+ lakh candidates who took the January attempt of India’s premier engineering entrance exam. Now, aspirants can self-evaluate their performance, predict rough percentiles, and submit challenges if they find errors in the key.

The provisional key covers Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech) primarily, with Paper 2A (B.Arch) and Paper 2B (B.Planning) details also accessible via login. This step ensures fairness and allows corrections before the final result declaration.

JEE Main 2026 Session 1 Key Dates & Timeline

  • Provisional Answer Key + Response Sheet Release: February 4, 2026 (Live Now)
  • Challenge/Objection Submission Window: February 4 to February 6, 2026 (closes at 11:50 PM)
  • Fee for Challenge: ₹200 per question (online payment, non-refundable even if accepted)
  • Final Answer Key Release: Expected shortly after review (mid-February)
  • Session 1 Result Declaration: Tentatively February 12, 2026 (NTA score, percentile, AIR)
  • Session 2 Exam Window: Early April 2026 (registration ongoing)

Step-by-Step Guide: Download Your JEE Main 2026 Response Sheet & Provisional Key

  1. Head to the official NTA JEE portal: jeemain.nta.nic.in.
  2. Find and click the active link: “Display of Provisional Answer Keys, Question Paper & Recorded Responses” or “Answer Key Challenge”.
  3. Enter your Application Number and Password (or Date of Birth).
  4. View/download:
    • Provisional Answer Key (correct options marked)
    • Recorded Response Sheet (your actual choices during the exam)
    • Question Paper (shift-wise, if released)
  5. Save PDFs securely for reference.

No generic public download—it’s login-based to protect privacy.

Quick Score Calculation Guide for JEE Main 2026

Use this formula for a realistic estimate:

  • Correct Answer (MCQ/Numerical): +4 marks
  • Incorrect Answer (MCQ only): -1 mark (no negative for numerical sections)
  • Unattempted: 0 marks
  • Total raw score = (Correct × 4) – (Incorrect × 1)
  • Percentile is calculated based on normalized raw scores across shifts.

Cross-reference your response sheet with the provisional key. Many coaching platforms (Allen, FIITJEE, etc.) are releasing shift-wise analysis—use them for deeper insights, but rely on official NTA data.

Raising Challenges: What You Need to Know

Spot a potential error? Act fast:

  • Log in during the window.
  • Select question ID(s) and provide clear justification (upload docs like standard references if needed).
  • Pay ₹200 per question.
  • Submit—NTA reviews valid claims only.

Successful challenges may lead to key revisions and score updates. NTA’s decision is final—no further appeals.

Next Steps for JEE Aspirants

  • Result & Rank: Use both sessions’ best scores for final ranking.
  • JoSAA Counselling: Starts post-April session for NITs, IIITs, GFTIs.
  • Session 2 Strategy: If your estimate is below target, register/prepare for the April attempt—many improve significantly.
  • Important Advice: Stick to jeemain.nta.nic.in for authentic updates. Beware of fake links or WhatsApp forwards claiming “final key” or “leaked results.”

This is a pivotal moment—use the key wisely to plan your next move. Stay focused, analyze calmly, and aim higher in Session 2 if needed. All the best to every JEE warrior!
