Honor has introduced the Magic 9 Pro Max in China, bringing an unusually camera-focused flagship smartphone to the market. The device combines high-resolution camera hardware with cinema-oriented video features developed alongside professional camera manufacturer ARRI.
The new smartphone is particularly aimed at photography enthusiasts, filmmakers and content creators who want advanced imaging tools without carrying a dedicated camera.
Dual 200MP Cameras Take Center Stage
The biggest attraction of the Honor Magic 9 Pro Max is its rear camera system.
The phone comes with a 200MP primary camera featuring a 1/1.28-inch sensor and an f/1.57 aperture. It is paired with a second 200MP telephoto camera using a larger 1/1.4-inch sensor and an f/2.6 aperture.
Completing the rear setup is a 50MP ultra-wide camera with an f/2.0 aperture. On the front, Honor has included a 55MP selfie camera.
The combination gives the phone considerably more camera resolution than many competing flagship smartphones.
ARRI Partnership Focuses on Mobile Filmmaking
Honor has worked with ARRI, the professional camera company known for its cinema equipment, to improve the imaging experience on the Magic 9 Pro Max.
The collaboration includes image-processing and camera expertise, along with software features designed around cinematic video production.
The phone supports 4K video recording at 60fps, 10-bit color and ARRI Wide Gamut 3. Users also get 14 ARRI filter presets, providing different looks for photos and videos.
These features could make the phone appealing to creators who regularly shoot short films, social media videos and other cinematic content using a smartphone.
Improved Stabilization for Video
Camera stabilization is another major part of the Magic 9 Pro Max’s imaging system.
Honor says the main camera supports optical image stabilization rated to the CIPA 8.0 standard. The camera system also offers up to 3 degrees of gimbal-level stabilization, with the camera hardware capable of physically adjusting its position.
This is designed to reduce unwanted movement and produce smoother handheld footage.
Cinema-Focused Audio Recording
Honor has not limited its filmmaking upgrades to the cameras.
The Magic 9 Pro Max features what the company describes as a cinema-grade directional microphone. According to Honor, it can capture audio from distances of up to 20 meters while using different recording modes to help isolate desired sounds and reduce surrounding noise.
For vloggers and mobile filmmakers, better directional audio could be just as useful as improved video stabilization.
Flagship Hardware Beyond the Cameras
The phone also comes with high-end specifications outside its imaging system.
It features a 6.8-inch LTPO OLED display with a refresh rate ranging from 1Hz to 120Hz and peak brightness of up to 2,000 nits.
Under the hood, the Magic 9 Pro Max uses the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 processor. It is available with up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage.
Power comes from an 8,800mAh silicon-carbon battery, giving the device a particularly large battery capacity compared with many conventional flagship phones.
The smartphone runs MagicOS 11 based on Android 17.
Honor Magic 9 Pro Max vs Other Camera Phones
On paper, Honor’s camera specifications are particularly aggressive.
The iPhone 18 Pro Max uses 48MP rear cameras, while Samsung’s Galaxy S26 Ultra features a 200MP main camera. Honor goes further in terms of resolution by putting a 200MP sensor in both its primary and telephoto cameras.
However, megapixel count isn’t the only factor that determines camera quality. Sensor size, lens quality, stabilization, image processing and software algorithms all influence the final photograph or video.
Honor’s ARRI collaboration and cinema-focused recording features therefore make the Magic 9 Pro Max interesting beyond its headline megapixel numbers.

Price and Availability
The Honor Magic 9 Pro Max has launched in China, with pricing starting at approximately $970 after conversion.
Honor does not officially sell its smartphones in the United States, meaning buyers in unsupported markets may need to rely on third-party imports.
With its dual 200MP camera system, ARRI-developed imaging technology, advanced stabilization, cinema-oriented video recording and large battery, the Magic 9 Pro Max is clearly designed to compete for attention in the premium camera-phone segment.
