Dhurandhar: The Revenge OTT Release Gets Green Signal From Delhi High Court Despite Song Copyright Row

The OTT release of Dhurandhar: The Revenge will continue as planned after the Delhi High Court refused to stop the streaming launch amid an ongoing copyright dispute related to one of the film’s songs.

The legal issue is linked to the track Rang De Lal (Oye Oye), which has been accused of using parts of the famous song Tirchi Topiwale from the 1989 action film Tridev without proper permission.

Why Has the Film Landed in Legal Trouble?

The case was filed by Trimurti Films, the production house behind Tridev. The company has accused the makers of Dhurandhar: The Revenge and music giant T-Series of using elements of the original song in the recreated version without valid authorisation.

According to the complaint, the disputed remix copies portions of the old hit track and was allegedly released without securing the required rights from the original owners.

Court Refuses to Stop Streaming Release

Justice Tushar Rao Gedela decided not to block the OTT release of the film. The court observed that the movie had already been released in theatres with the same song included, making it difficult to stop only the digital release now.

The judge also considered the large investments already made by the producers and distributors. The court stated that if copyright infringement is proven later, compensation can still be awarded to the original rights holders.

Rs 50 Lakh Deposit Ordered as Interim Protection

Even though the release was allowed, the court directed T-Series to deposit Rs 50 lakh within four weeks in a fixed deposit account supervised by the court registrar.

This amount will serve as temporary financial protection while the copyright case continues. Legal experts believe the order balances commercial interests and copyright concerns without causing major disruption to the film’s release.

T-Series Cites Earlier Remix Usage

During the hearing, T-Series reportedly argued that songs from Tridev had been reused in remix formats in previous projects as well, and no objections were raised at that time.

The court noted the argument but clarified that the main dispute over music rights and permissions will still be examined in detail during future hearings.

Where to Watch Dhurandhar: The Revenge

After the court’s decision, the OTT release is expected to proceed without delays.

The film has already launched internationally on Netflix under the title Dhurandhar The Revenge (Raw and Undekha). In India, the movie is likely to stream on JioHotstar next month.

Directed by Aditya Dhar, the action drama stars Ranveer Singh alongside Sanjay Dutt, R. Madhavan, and Arjun Rampal.

Remix Song Disputes Increasing in Bollywood

The case has once again sparked discussion around remix culture in Bollywood and the growing number of disputes related to recreated songs.

In recent years, several filmmakers and music labels have faced criticism for reusing classic tracks without what original creators believe is proper licensing or credit. Industry experts say such legal battles could become more common as older songs continue to be recreated for modern audiences.
