Assam: Four Arrested in Killing of Class 10 Girl During Land Dispute Clash
Assam Police have arrested four men in connection with the killing of a Class 10 girl student in Cachar district following a violent clash triggered by a long-standing land dispute, officials confirmed on Saturday.
The incident occurred on Monday night at Hatikhala Bazaar, where tensions between two groups reportedly escalated into a confrontation. The minor girl sustained critical injuries during the clash and was rushed to Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH). She succumbed to her injuries on Wednesday night while undergoing treatment.
The accused — Raju Ahmed, Atabur Rahman, Rais Ali, and Shahab Uddin — were apprehended during a late-night police operation on Friday.
Hospital records indicate that at least 12 people, including both men and women, were admitted to SMCH with injuries related to the violence. Police stated that all the injured individuals were involved in the clash. Two of them remain in critical condition and are currently receiving treatment in the intensive care unit.
Following the student’s death, tension gripped the area, prompting the administration to deploy additional security forces and intensify patrolling in and around Hatikhala Bazaar to prevent further unrest.
The victim’s family has filed a first information report (FIR) at the local police station. Authorities have registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Section 103, which pertains to murder.
Family members and local residents have demanded a fair and impartial investigation, along with strict punishment for those responsible for the crime.
