Amazon has announced a massive $48 billion investment in India between 2026 and 2030, reaffirming its long-term commitment to one of its fastest-growing markets. The announcement was made after Amazon President and CEO Andy Jassy met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi.

The fresh investment will strengthen Amazon’s presence across e-commerce, artificial intelligence (AI), cloud computing, logistics, digital infrastructure, and job creation.

Amazon Bets Big on India’s AI and Cloud Future

As part of the broader investment plan, Amazon will allocate more than $21 billion toward expanding its AI and cloud infrastructure across the country over the next five years.

This includes an additional $13 billion for Amazon Web Services (AWS), which will be used to expand data centre infrastructure in Mumbai and Hyderabad.

The expansion aims to provide startups, businesses, developers, and government organisations with greater access to advanced cloud computing services, AI models, custom AI chips, and secure digital infrastructure.

The investment is expected to position Amazon among the largest global investors in India’s AI and cloud ecosystem.

Total Investment in India Crosses $88 Billion

With the latest announcement, Amazon’s cumulative investment commitment in India between 2010 and 2030 will exceed $88 billion.

The company said India continues to be a strategic market where demand is growing rapidly across multiple business segments, including online retail, cloud computing, artificial intelligence, digital entertainment, and enterprise services.

Andy Jassy said Amazon remains committed to supporting India’s digital transformation and economic growth while aligning with the government’s vision of building a developed and self-reliant nation.

AWS Expansion to Benefit Startups and Enterprises

The planned infrastructure expansion will significantly increase AWS capacity in India, enabling businesses to build and deploy AI-powered applications more efficiently.

According to the company, customers will gain access to next-generation cloud technologies, managed AI services, machine learning tools, and scalable computing resources that can support innovation across industries.

The investment is also expected to strengthen India’s position as a growing hub for AI development and cloud-based digital services.

Focus on Jobs, Small Businesses and Digital Exports

Amazon highlighted its contribution to India’s digital economy over the past decade. Since entering the Indian market, the company has helped digitise millions of small businesses, generated billions of dollars in e-commerce exports, and created employment opportunities across multiple sectors.

Looking ahead, Amazon has set ambitious goals for the next five years. The company plans to support 3.8 million jobs, enable $80 billion in cumulative exports, help 15 million small businesses adopt AI-powered solutions, and provide AI education to 4 million government school students.

Amazon Strengthens Long-Term India Strategy

The latest investment announcement reflects Amazon’s confidence in India’s expanding digital economy and growing technology ecosystem. With increasing demand for cloud computing, artificial intelligence, online shopping, and digital services, the company is positioning itself for long-term growth in the country.

Industry experts believe the investment could accelerate innovation, create new employment opportunities, and further strengthen India’s status as a global technology and AI hub.

As competition in AI and cloud computing intensifies worldwide, Amazon’s multi-billion-dollar commitment signals that India will remain a key market in the company’s global expansion strategy.
