A new member of the Dravid family is set to represent India on the international stage. Anvay Dravid, the younger son of former India captain Rahul Dravid, has been selected in the India Under-19 squad for the upcoming ODI series against Sri Lanka.
The Junior Cricket Selection Committee announced the squads for both the limited-overs and multi-day matches scheduled during India’s Under-19 tour of Sri Lanka. The series is set to begin on July 4 in Hambantota and will feature three One-Day matches followed by two longer-format games.
Seventeen-year-old Anvay has been included in the ODI squad as a wicketkeeper-batter. He will share wicketkeeping duties with Rajat Baghel. The young cricketer has impressed selectors with his performances in domestic age-group tournaments over the past season.
Madhya Pradesh batter Yashbardhan Singh Chauhan has been named captain of the side, while Lakshya Raichandani will serve as vice-captain.
Strong Domestic Performances Rewarded
Anvay’s selection comes after a productive run in youth cricket. He recently led Karnataka’s Under-19 team in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy, guiding the side to the quarter-finals. During the tournament, he scored 220 runs in six innings and played several important knocks.
One of his standout performances came against Himachal Pradesh, where he produced an unbeaten 82 runs to help his team chase down a challenging target. Earlier in his junior career, he also scored a century in the Vijay Merchant Trophy, attracting attention from talent scouts and selectors.
Important Step Towards U-19 World Cup Aspirations
Cricket experts view the Sri Lanka tour as an important part of India’s preparations for the next Under-19 World Cup cycle. With age still on his side, Anvay remains eligible for future global youth tournaments, making this opportunity a valuable learning experience.
Interestingly, while his elder brother Samit Dravid has represented Karnataka at the age-group level, Anvay becomes the first member of the family to earn selection for an Indian national youth team.
The Indian squad is expected to leave for Sri Lanka later this month as preparations begin for the highly anticipated series.
