Samsung could be preparing a significant hardware refresh for its next premium smartphone. The upcoming Galaxy S27 Ultra is rumored to arrive with a much larger battery, potentially giving the flagship a noticeable advantage in endurance.

Recent reports have pointed to a 5,700mAh battery for Samsung’s next Ultra model. If the information is accurate, it would represent a substantial increase from the 5,000mAh battery capacity found in recent Galaxy Ultra smartphones.

The battery isn’t the only rumored upgrade. Samsung is also expected to introduce newer display technology, while the company’s S Pen could continue to play an important role in separating the Ultra from competing flagship smartphones.

Samsung has not yet officially confirmed these specifications.

Galaxy S27 Ultra Could Feature a 5,700mAh Battery

Battery capacity has remained relatively unchanged across Samsung’s recent Ultra smartphones. The rumored 5,700mAh battery would finally break that pattern.

On paper, the increase is around 14% compared with a 5,000mAh battery. That could give the Galaxy S27 Ultra additional power for demanding daily tasks, particularly for users who frequently stream content, use mobile data, take photos and videos or run demanding applications.

However, battery size alone does not determine how long a smartphone lasts.

The efficiency of the processor, display, modem and software can have a major impact on overall battery performance. Samsung’s optimisation will therefore be just as important as the additional capacity.

A Major Change to Samsung’s Ultra Battery Strategy

Samsung has generally avoided dramatically increasing battery capacities in its flagship Galaxy S phones. Meanwhile, other smartphone manufacturers have increasingly focused on high-density battery technologies to fit larger cells into relatively slim devices.

The reported Galaxy S27 Ultra capacity could indicate that Samsung is becoming more aggressive in this area.

Samsung may also increase the battery capacity of another upcoming model.

The Galaxy S27 Pro has reportedly been linked with a 5,200mAh battery. This would place it between Samsung’s standard flagship and Ultra model while potentially giving the Pro version stronger battery endurance.

If these reports are accurate, Samsung could be preparing a broader battery upgrade across the Galaxy S27 family instead of reserving the change exclusively for the Ultra.

The final specifications, however, could change before launch.

New M16 Display Technology Could Be Coming

The Galaxy S27 Ultra is also rumored to feature Samsung’s next-generation M16 OLED display technology.

Some reports have suggested that the new panel could achieve extremely high peak brightness, with figures reaching as much as 10,000 nits under specific conditions.

That number sounds impressive, but peak brightness should not be confused with the brightness users will see continuously during normal usage.

Real-world display performance depends on factors such as HDR brightness, outdoor visibility, thermal management, power consumption and how long the screen can maintain high brightness levels.

The M16 technology could nevertheless bring improvements in efficiency and image quality if Samsung manages to balance brightness with power consumption.

S Pen Could Remain a Key Reason to Choose the Ultra

Samsung’s Ultra lineup has one major feature that continues to differentiate it from many other premium smartphones: the integrated S Pen.

The stylus allows users to write notes, draw, edit documents, control certain phone functions and perform other tasks without relying entirely on touch input.

The S Pen could become even more important if Samsung adds new AI-powered features or productivity tools to the Galaxy S27 Ultra.

For users who already depend on the stylus, a combination of improved battery life and additional S Pen functionality could make the next Ultra model particularly interesting.

Samsung Could Focus on Practical Upgrades

Rather than relying entirely on faster performance or higher camera numbers, Samsung appears to have an opportunity to focus on features users notice every day.

A larger battery could improve endurance, while a more efficient display could help reduce power consumption. Improvements to the S Pen could also make the phone more useful for productivity.

These upgrades could complement other expected improvements, including a newer processor, camera enhancements and updated Galaxy AI features.

However, the final hardware and software package won’t be known until Samsung officially introduces the device.

When Could the Galaxy S27 Ultra Launch?

Samsung has not announced the Galaxy S27 launch event yet.

The Galaxy S27 series is currently expected to arrive in early 2027, following Samsung’s recent flagship launch cycle. The company could reveal the devices at a Galaxy Unpacked event around January or February, with sales potentially beginning soon afterward.

The expected lineup could include the Galaxy S27, Galaxy S27 Pro and Galaxy S27 Ultra.

Based on the reports currently circulating, the Galaxy S27 Ultra could feature:
