Former Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli’s associated upscale restaurant and bar One8 Commune in Bengaluru has been shut down following a civil court order over unpaid rent and other dues reportedly exceeding ₹2 crore. The outlet, located near the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, has now been sealed and will remain closed until all outstanding liabilities are cleared.
Court‑Ordered Closure Over Unpaid Rent
The Bengaluru city civil court intervened after the building owner filed a petition alleging that the operator had defaulted on rent, maintenance charges, and an agreed‑upon revenue share for nearly six months. Reports indicate that the combined arrears crossed ₹2 crore, prompting the court to direct the closure of One8 Commune’s premises until the operator settles all dues.
Virat Kohli Already Severed Ties
Virat Kohli had already cut ties with the Bengaluru outlet and withdrawn his brand name and association from One8 Commune before the closure. Sources say he distanced himself after repeated compliance issues, including notices from the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) over alleged fire‑safety lapses and regulatory violations.
Earlier Legal Troubles and Declining Footfall
In previous years, the Bengaluru One8 Commune also faced scrutiny for operating beyond permitted hours and lacking a designated smoking zone, leading to FIRs and notices from local authorities. With declining footfall, regulatory pressure, and financial strain, the outlet reportedly incurred significant losses, paving the way for the eventual court‑mandated shutdown.
Bengaluru Outlet’s History and Brand Impact
The Bengaluru branch of One8 Commune, launched in December 2023, was marketed as a premium dining and nightlife destination under Virat Kohli’s broader hospitality banner. While the Bengaluru outlet now lies sealed, the One8 Commune chain continues to operate in other Indian cities such as Delhi, Gurugram, Pune, Kolkata, Noida, and Hyderabad.
